Children's Hour

2011-06-23 - Children’s Hour invited Friendship Home to its 10th Campaign Year summit held at UNILAB’s Bayanihan Center, Pioneer St., Mandaluyong City.  The theme of the summit was “APRUB!” A Partnership in Resource Utiliation for the Betterment of Childrlen.  Highlights of the  summit program consisted of showcasing of 4 Children’s Hour-supported projects, namely:  Sharing the Light,  a library assistance program for public schools of the Ateneo de Manila University’s Pathways to Higher Education Progam; CommUnity through Literacy, implemented in Sarangani Province by Synergeia Foundation, Inc.; Foundational Learning for Matigsalug Indigenous Children, a project of the Tribal Mission Foundation International, Inc. for Matigsalug children in Davao; and Klasrum Bulilit, a curriculum development project for day care centers in Laguna.

The showcasing of the projects was followed by a Panel Discussion with the following panellists  Ms. Ma. Elena S. caraballo, Executive Director of the Council for the Welfare of Children;  Ms. Maria G. Goolsby, Director, Corporate Philanthropy Social Responsibility Unit of the Union Bank, and Ms. Felicitas C. Rixhon, President, Association of Foundations.

DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano Soliman gave an inspirational address during the afternoon session.  This was followed by the presentation of approved Project Concept Papers submitted to Children’s Hour for 2011:  Providing Life Skills to Children and Youth:   A Strategy Against Domestic Violence, proposed project of Venue for Initiative and Genuine Development (VINE) Foundation, Inc.; Educational Assistance with Campaign Against Corporal Punishment, of Balay Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Total Human Development (BIRTH-DEV), Inc.; and Community Health Awareness and Learning for Kids (CHALK), a proposed project of Children’s International Philippines, Inc.

The following are some of the factors considered by Children’s Hour in its approval of project proposals: impact (area coverage, number of beneficiaries, multi-stakeholders); sustainability; partnership and replicability.
