WHAT’S NEW, 20  January 2010

Friendship Home is deeply saddened and sends its prayers  for the suffering people of Haiti who were struck by a massive 7.2 earthquake on January 12.  Another major 6.1. aftershock struck today creating even much greater fear, anxiety and grief and increasing further the need to provide massive assistance to the countless victims of the calamity.

Friendship also grieves and prays for all those whose lives were lost, including Catholic Archbishop Joseph Joseph Serge Miot, and to the families, friends and partner-communities of Cross International in Haiti. Cross International Catholic Outreach traces its foundation and beginnings to its mission to give aid to the poorest of the poor in Haiti.  After a few years, its Christian ministries have spread to thirty countries, including the Philippines.

Our friends, Mike Wilson and Nola Boea, International Projects Director and Senior Staff Writer of Cross International, had to cancel their scheduled visit to Friendship Home in order to rush back to the United States and assist in Cross International’s relief efforts for Haiti.  Friendship Home bears witness to Cross International’s commitment to serve the physical and spiritual needs of the poorest people in the developing world, not only in times of major disasters such as when typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng hit Metro Manila, but most especially in the day-to-day struggle of our children to reach their elusive dream:  to make poverty history.
